The IAU Global Wine Studies Program was founded in 2013 with a summer course, The Global Business of Wine: A French Immersion in Aix-en-Provence, France. This six-week course is still offered each summer, but as the program’s demand grew rapidly, a Global Wine Certificate was created in 2014.
Our Global Wine Certificate at IAU focuses on the international business of wine to enlighten our students about the complex wine industry. In addition to wine tastings and visits to wineries and vineyards, our students have the opportunity to take a number of different classes on the production and business of wine. Over 60 IAU students take wine courses each semester, and a student-lead team manages the social media for the program, which includes Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, and this WordPress Blog.
Each semester we offer a number of wine tastings open to all IAU students, where we enjoy wine and snacks over discussions about the taste and origin of a variety of wines. To keep up to date about when the next tastings are, like our Facebook page and follow this Blog, and find out more information about our final tasting for the 2018 Spring semester here.
Our program continues to grow each semester. In addition to semester courses, we offer a 2-3 week January-Term Traveling Seminar, “Wine, Gastronomy and Sustainability in the Mediterranean”. In 2019 the seminar will include trips to Provence, Bordeaux and Catalonia/Barcelona.
We also continue to offer a summer session,“The Global Wine Industry: A French Immersion”, which is a six-week 3-credit course.
